Refresher Course for Overseas Teachers of English
professional development, teacher training, English Language Development
Intended for speakers of any language who are teaching, or intend to teach, English. The courses bring together teachers from many different countries and present the opportunity for you to share ideas and experiences, which has proved a very popular feature of training at ITTC.
To improve your command of English, develop insights into language teaching methodology and provide a range of practical classroom ideas. The course takes place during June, July and August or at other times subject to a minimum of six participants. It is designed for both primary and secondary school teachers, is very practical in content and consists of 20 x 45-minute sessions per week to help you develop your own language. You will also be able to discuss teaching methodology and ideas for the classroom. In addition to 5 hours per week of self-access study in the multi-media centre, you have the option of studying additional areas of language development on the Options Programme at BEET Language Centre. You may also be able to attend teaching practice given by candidates studying for the University of Cambridge CELTA for 2 hours each afternoon.
For each self-contained week, the programme will be drawn from selected areas of methodology and language. Participants complete a pre-course questionnaire which allows us to add areas of methodology and language of your choice. The following provides an indication of the range of topics available:
language development in grammar, vocabulary and phonology
current idiomatic use of English
exploiting current language teaching materials
developing learners' spoken and written skills
