On the weekend of May 10th 2014, Nicola Christie and the Kizomba LOOOve Club headed to the Mambo City Five Star Congress in London. This is a notorious weekend of Latin, Cuban and Afro dance, where people flock from all over the UK and abroad to join in. World Class, instructor-led workshops and some of the most popular parties on the scene are definitely the perfect setting for students, teachers and lovers of dance to share in their passion for the dances and rhythms, such as Salsa, Kizomba, Bachata and many more. Filled with fun, the event certainly has something to offer everyone. Nicola commented, "My favorite and the funniest part of the weekend is the Jack & Jill competition. All the teachers get paired up with a student and are as outrageous as possible. It's hilarious to watch." For the Kizomba LOOOve Club, traveling to the event together is all part of the fun and for many is where new friendships have been made. Sharing in the dance has allowed many people to step outside of their comfort zones and enjoy the inclusive scene, not just at social events and workshops, but that the Kizomba LOOOve Club continues to promote at "home". Perhaps the most obvious reason to attend an event such as the Mambo City Congress, is to take advantage of the World Class instructors and tutors who so easily inspire dancers, teachers and students alike. "Like everybody else, I love to learn something new. It's very inspiring for me to be taught new steps and moves, or even to listen to their 'take' on the basics." Nicola feels like attending events such as this enables her to broaden her horizons and teaching techniques, in order to share the dances and her learning experiences with the students at home, "I always come back buzzing with enthusiasm, and will have had many fantastic dances. This keeps me motivated and inspired until the next time, which can never come to soon." Nicola enjoys returning to teach her classes with a new take on steps, technique or musicality and sharing her inspiration with the Kizomba LOOOve Club, who are always so eager to learn something new. The inspiration from the weekend away serves as a great teaching tool. The Kizomba LOOOve Club is a dynamic, diverse and inclusive group of friends. Nicola comments, "Its great that we all go to events such as this, as a group. When we arrive in the Kizomba room, we have a LOOOve Club 'camp' (where we throw all our bags ) so that then we come and go as we please, knowing where we can all meet up. We all know how friendly the LOOOve Clubbers are, but it always amazes me how lovely and friendly the people are in London. I feel it must be just 'dancing people' in general are such lovely people." Overall, The Kizomba LOOOve Club highly rate the Mambo City Congress and the dancing weekenders and would encourage people to experience the Kizomba LOOOve Club and join in. The most inspirational and motivational factor in organising and sharing these events is Nicola's shared vision, since founding the Kizomba LOOOve Club in 2011, "I like the thought that dancing brings so much happiness to people, giving them confidence and a sense of belonging. It's so much more than just a dance." The Kizomba LOOOve Club would LOOOve to extend their welcome to a class near you.
