Antique Silver Chamberstick
Antique Silver Chamberstick . It has a gadrooned pattern around the top rim of the sconce and also around the rim of the circular saucer base. It has a loop circular handle. It also comes complete with the snuffer which sits onto a match striker which is hollow so little matches could also be stored in here. This is most unusual to have a striker manufactured into a chamberstick so it makes it a very neat and very useful item. It is made of a good guage of silver and is of a good sturdy weight. In addition to the clear English hallmarks it also has the French import marks and the retailers stamp on the underside of the base "Leuchers & Son Ceffroy 6U66B (I think) "2 Rue De La Paix Paris" and underneath this mark is "Made in England".
It has Hallmarks for LONDON 1898/99 and Silver Makers Marks: H W & Co Ld (Horace Woodward & Co Ltd). It measure 4 inches tall, and the diameter of the base is 6.5 inches. It weighs 358g.
Overall it is in good condition but it does have a very small pin prick size ding to the body of the candle holder and the rim of the sconce is a little bent in a couple of places. The base rim is a little bit uneven and the underside of the rim does have some some areas of a little bit of crinkling. Having said all of the above this sounds far worse than it actually is, as you have to look very closely to even notice them, but I do try to describe my items as accurately as possible and all are commensurate with its 112 years old and use.
This really is a very good large antique Victorian solid silver chamberstick, complete with snuffer and striker with room to keep matches.
