Volunteers are recruited and training initiated so that candidates can pursue NVQ Level 2 qualifications.The supply of volunteers has been well maintained over the years and at any one time there will be at least six young people between the ages of 16 and 25 volunteering in the cafe. The popularity of the Coffee Shop remains high with the general public.
Training is given in all areas covered by the catering trade, eg: hygiene, food preparation, storage, counter service, operation of the till and waiting at tables.At all times adequate provision is made for the encouragement of good interpersonal relationships, and opportunities given to seek advice on personal, financial or domestic problems and encouragement in self confidence.
The Coffee Shop is open to the local community and provides quality low cost meals.The income generated helps to provide other services which do not create an income for example; counselling provided for the young people, help with literacy and numeracy difficulties etc.
