Following successful completion of the course, delegates will be able to:
* Comply with legal requirements with an emphasis on Safe Practice * Identify the risks associated with using a 4 x 4 vehicle Off Road * Select appropriate P.P.E * Understand the different types of 4 x 4 systems currently available * Identify the vehicle specific Controls and Transmission type * Understand the function of all instruments/warning lights * Carry our Pre-use Checks as indicated in the Manufacturer’s Handbook * Carry out appropriate preparation and checks prior to driving off-road * Drive over a variety of terrain and ground/surface conditions * Carry out an ‘Emergency Stop’ on descent * Carry out a ‘Failed Hill’ climb on ascent * Utilise various ‘Self Recovery’ techniques * Operate the vehicle safely on a variety of slopes, terrain and tracks * Understand to dangers of assisted recovery * Change a wheel, following an appropriate Vehicle Risk Management procedure * Identify loading/towing capacities
This is a two day course is designed for delegates with little or no off road driving experience , and delegates will be assessed on their general performance throughout the days, with errors corrected as they occur. A short formal assessment is carried out towards the end of the course. Providing the required standards are met, a Certificate of Training will be issued. If the standards are not met, then feedback will be given, as to the appropriate steps to be taken.
