This course is essential for First Aiders in the workplace and complies with the current Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. All employers in the UK have a legal duty to provide first aid cover for their employees. Self-employed persons must also ensure they have adequate facilities to provide first aid to themselves while at work. Ofqual approved certificates will be issued to delegates who successfully complete the course. Certificates are valid for 3 years however, it is recommended by the HSE that a yearly Skills Update (minimum 3 hours) is undertaken to reduce the skills fade of the First Aider. The 3 day course includes the following subjects: The role of the first aider, including first aid kits, incident reports and preventing cross infection Control of bleeding Burns and scalds Sprains and strains Fractures and dislocations, including neck and spinal injuries Seizures Shock Asthma Choking Anaphylaxis Diabetes Head injuries, including Stroke Eye injuries Poisoning Angina and heart attack Treatment of the unconscious casualty Resuscitation The 2 day Requalification course will aim to update the skills and knowledge of the First Aider; covering all of those subjects included in the 3 day course. The First Aider still has up to 28 days (course must be completed on, or before, the 28th day) after the expiry date of their certificate to requalify on the 2 day course, however during this time they will no longer be considered as being a qualified First Aider. Courses are assessed by written assessment (multi-choice questions) and ongoing assessment, by the Trainer, of practical skills.
