The First Aid at Work Guidelines for Employers from the Health and Safety Executive came into effect from 1st October 2009. This course is required where the First Aid Needs Assessment has identified this level of First Aid cover is necessary. Ofqual approved certificates will be issued to delegates who successfully complete the course. Certificates are valid for 3 years however, it is recommended by the HSE that a yearly Skills Update (minimum 3 hours) is undertaken to reduce the skills fade of the First Aider. The course covers the following subjects: The role of the first aider, including first aid kits, incident reports and preventing cross infection Control of bleeding Burns and scalds Seizures Shock Choking Treatment of the unconscious casualty Resuscitation Courses are assessed by written assessment (multi-choice questions) and ongoing assessment, by the Trainer, of practical skills.
