EMERGENCY RESPONSE

FIRST AID

COURSE PROGRAMME OUTLINE

A basic three-hour programme for individuals who wish to gain an insight into

emergency procedures and attain a certificate of attendance.

COURSE OUTCOMES

By the end of the course candidates will be able to demonstrate the essential

knowledge and skills needed to deal with a cardiac arrest.

THE AWARD

The course tutor will carry out an on-going assessment and all successful

students will receive a certificate of attendance.

THE TRAINER

A First Aid Instructor, whose qualifications are acceptable to the

Health & Safety Executive for teaching statutory First Aid and whose

registration is acceptable to FAST, will conduct the course.

The trainer will be informed of any changes to procedures and practices as

laid down by the European Resuscitation Council and the Health & Safety

Executive.

COURSE EVALUATION

All candidates will be given the opportunity to evaluate the course in respect

of the contents of the course, the knowledge and skills of the tutor, resources

that were made available and the venue.

The students must complete these documents at the end of the course.

It will be the trainer’s responsibility to collect these forms and return them to

FAST. They may wish to take a copy for their own records.

These records are analysed by FAST in order to monitor the

trainer’s performance and feedback will be given if it is felt necessary.

It is recommended that the trainer also analyses these documents

for the purpose of self-evaluation.

EMERGENCY RESPONSE FIRST AID HANDOUTS

FAST recommends that the book ‘Emergency First Aid Handbook’ be

used as a handout for the students.
