Because First Aid at Work certificates are only valid for three years, all learners
will need to carry out a requalification course.
This includes re-testing skills and understanding before First Aid Select Training
are able to issue a new certificate.
This re-testing/assessment must be completed within 28 days of their current
date of expiry, as shown on their current FAW certificate.
You are not able to accept learners on requalification courses if they have
expired beyond this 28 day period.
If their certificate has expired beyond this 28 day period, it will be necessary for
the person to carry out a full 3-day First Aid at Work course.
Requalification training, including final assessment, must last at least
12 hours including the assessment, but excluding breaks. Training sessions
must not be less than two hours.
The course must include a revision of topics covered in the 3-Day course.
New protocols that have been introduced since their last course must be included.
Any certificates issued by an approved organisation, should be accepted
by any other organisation that the HSE have approved.
In order for FAST to issue a new certificate, learners need to provide,
either a copy of their old certificate, or a letter from the organisation who trained them
previously stating their qualification date.
Any learner who cannot provide evidence of their previous qualification, or
whose certificate is out-of-date beyond the 28-day dispensation period, will need
to attend a 3-Day FAW course.
