Stone Parish Council received planning permission to demolish the existing cricket pavilion and build a large modular extension to the community hall at the recreation grounds in Kent, providing increased capacity and much-improved facilities to cater for the needs of the existing and future growth of the parish. Working with Acanthus LW & Stone Parish Council, Extraspace Solutions produced a comprehensive design to provide a steel framed modular building extending to 370 m2, incorporating numerous environmentally friendly features such as solar panels, under floor heating and low energy lighting. Use of sun pipes and sky lights will maximise natural light and an external timber terrace area will provide views over the cricket field. The project will see the relocation of council staff to the new modular accommodation in February 2011. The new modular accommodation will feature changing rooms and showers, in line with Sport England Guidelines, council offices and a club/function room. Works commenced on site October 2010 with handover of the new building scheduled for 28th February 2011 and the renovation to the existing building to be completed by March 2011. With such a short programme the client decided to opt for off-site construction versus traditional building methods as their preferred construction method. This in effect saved up to 3 months on site.
