Rock View Vets April Newsletter Isn’t it lovely to see all the flowers in bloom and the leaves coming back on the trees. Going are the dark cold days of winter and here are the slightly warmer longer days of spring (hopefully!) Spring does bring with it a few worries, especially with grass seeds, so after a walk in long grass or in the woods give your dog a good once over with a brush, checking their ears and between their pads as this is where they are likely to get problems. Grass awns or seeds can become lodged between the pads, and down ears. If you are worried or your pet seems to be itching and or shaking their head more than usual visit your vet so they can do a check up. A word of caution, if you do enjoy the occasional game of fetch with your dog, don’t reach for the nearest stick, as they can become dangerous if they are caught wrong or even leave splinters in your pets mouth. Take a toy with you it will be a lot safer. National Pet Month April is National Pet Month; we will be raising money for St Francis’s Dog Home by doing “Guess the name of….”, a very cute cuddly toy which will be on view in reception. Obviously if you guess the name correctly you win him/her! We will also do a raffle for a lovely donated prize which will also be on display. St Francis Dogs Home is a registered charity providing an essential haven for unwanted dogs. They do a fabulous job and need everyone’s support. They re-home between 200 and 250 a year. Last year they re-homed 223 dogs of all shapes and sizes. Even a little Staffie that had been there for 14 months found a home. As well as matching up young dogs with the right families they also find suitable older owners for a number of elderly dogs including a delightful smooth coat Lurcher called Eddie who is with his 85 year old owner now! Tel: 01637 872976, if you could give a dog a home. In the on going battle against fleas and ticks we have launched a brand new product! The 8 month flea and tick treatment in a collar! No more trying to remember monthly spot on flea and tick treatments – just put it on and forget it for 8 months! ‘Seresto’ kills fleas and repels and kills ticks for 8 months in dogs and cats. It is water resistant, and has a continuous release of ingredients into the fat layer of your pets skin. Pups as young as 7 weeks old and kittens from 10 weeks old can wear a ‘Seresto’ collar – just remember to allow growth over the 8 months! (The collar is adjustable.) In March We also launched our yearly worming offer. Back by popular demand! Buy your dogs yearly wormer (4 doses) and only pay for 3 doses! Brilliant! This can save you quite a bit of money especially if you have several dogs. The small wormer is small, bone With the weather starting to look better all the time our minds are turning to May, when we will be holding our Annual Open Day. This always proves to be very popular, with our dog show, raffle, “Guess the weight of…”, and other activities for young and old alike. Our local singing talent Ben Warwick-Potthurst will be performing with his group ‘Sounds Original’ not to be missed! We will be holding this on Saturday 12th May 2012, starting at 2.00pm and going on to 4.30pm. We look forward to seeing everyone there. Here at Rock View Vets we try to help you provide the best treatment for your pets. Fiona and the Team would like to thank you all for your continued support.
