The Hornbeam is a hardy native plant that can be used to make a substantial hedging screen and is also good for pleaching. Hornbeam will tolerate wet soils and windy locations. The leaves are strongly ribbed and turn vivid yellow in autumn. The common English name of "hornbeam" derives from the hardness of the wood and they are part of the Birch family. Hornbeam has been awarded an RHS Award of Garden Merit.
