This form of Complementary/Holistic therapy is possibly one of the most familiar. (Counselling can be used as a stand alone therapy or in conjunction with others such as aromatherapy, stress management, relaxation and so on.)
We all need help and support from time to time. Sometimes these needs can be met by family and friends and other times an independent third party with experience in the relevant fields can assist.
Counselling can be a neutral place for individuals or couples to be, to simply talk though an issue or issues, or they may undertake counselling to seek a solution to a specific problem or problems.
Being able to talk to a non-judgemental counsellor in a safe environment can be a very therapeutic experience allowing difficulties to be faced and resolved.
Many have an idea about how counselling works, what is involved, however when utilising Complementary/Holistic counselling I can offer and suggest areas of other therapies that may also assist you.
When looking to be part of counselling it is really important that you find the right counsellor for you.
Over the years many people have found me after unsuccessful counselling elsewhere, often from counsellors they have been sent to from the GP. As with all people in life there are people that we feel comfortable with and others we do not. Some counsellors should have empathy, compassion and be non-judgemental, however, unfortunately this does not always happen.
Feeling comfortable and building a rapport with your counsellor is very important, without this trust and progress can be difficult to impossible.
As said elsewhere, by accessing Complementary/Holistic therapies it is not saying that you are ‘ill’, have an ‘illness’ or a ‘problem’. Sometimes counselling can be preventative to further problems or just an outlet that again prevents problems occurring.
How can I help you?
I can be a safe neutral place for you to talk though issues that you need to.
I can be a non-judgemental independent party to be a sounding board or offer guidance to move forward.
I can treat you as an individual and not only use my counselling skills and experience to help and support but also to suggest and use other Complementary/Holistic therapies where appropriate.
