Meditation gives even very young children, power over their thinking and their emotions using enhanced self-understanding and self-acceptance. It is a gentle and effective means of overcoming a wide variety of psychological and behavioral problems, such as anxiety, hyperactivity and aggression.
Meditation can provide the following benefits to any child:
- Physical relaxation
- Improved concentration
- Increased tranquility and ability to deal with stress
- Improved awareness
- Improved creativity
- Reduced anger/impulsivity
- Improved interaction
Such a broad spectrum of benefits highlight the significant potential of meditation as a cost effective form of school based mental health promotion.
We have been providing practical meditation training workshops in schools for children and teachers for some time with very positive outcomes. A significant proportion also reported that the experience of meditation at school had prompted them to meditate outside school, particularly at times of stress.
