In 2012 we we set up a Community Cooking Programme, offering dis-advantaged and unemployed people the opportunity to connect with each other over good food. They do this through community grow schemes, cook and eat projects, healthy eating sessions, and training schemes for careers in professional catering environments. The Community Cooking Programme helps to build food skills, reduce social isolation and give participants’ access to healthy food and good food practices including offering Food Hygiene/Catering courses Level 1 & 2. This year we are launching the New Foods Enterprise Scheme, working with Housing Association residents throughout London. The scheme has been set up to develop a network of small cooking enterprises that not only service local communities but also deliver service contracts within the Social Housing sector. We have developed practical, achievable teaching methods that are tailored to a specific individual or group’s need to support their new food enterprise.
