Podiatry is the new name for chiropody and refers to treatment specifically for the feet. A podiatrist has extensive training and will have undertaken a 3 or 4 year degree to enable them to treat a vast range of foot and lower leg problems.
Along with the usual chiropody treatments for corns and hard skin (please see our Chiropody page) our podiatrists offer other specialised services such as:
Biomechanics deals with problems arising from the way your joints align and your muscles
work. Pain caused by poor alignment can affect your feet but also your knees, hips and
lower back. Foot orthotics are often recommended to address these problems.
Foot orthotics are special shoe inserts which are used to correct foot problems that may be causing painful feet or referred problems elsewhere in the body. By changing the position and posture of your feet, we can help improve your body’s alignment and hopefully your symptoms. Foot orthotics are often used to treat flat feet (fallen arches) and they can be useful in treating many other conditions. At St Judes Clinic, we offer two types of orthotics depending on the level of the problem – ready-made and bespoke. The latter involves our podiatrist casting an impression of your feet which are then manufactured at a specialist laboratory. Following the fitting of your foot orthoses, a check-up after 6 weeks is carried out to ensure the new orthotic is doing its job, allowing for any minor adjustments to be made.
Podo-paediatrics deals with the diagnosis and treatment of lower leg and foot related
problems in children and is often developmental in nature and related to biomechanics.
Sports Injuries Our podiatrists often work with our physiotherapists, combining their expert knowledge of lower limb problems and treatments to diagnose and treat many lower limb sports injuries.
Nail surgery Our podiatrists offer the convenience of nail surgery, by local anaesthetic, at
the St Judes Clinic, saving the need for a hospital visit.
How about a Medi-Pedi? A 45-minute medical pedicure by our podiatrist, Jack, will leave you with healthier, great-looking feet. Take the strain out of your feet and let our fully qualified podiatrists pamper your feet and put the spring back in your step. Further details can be seen on our Medi-Pedi page.
What conditions do your podiatrists treat?
Knee problems such as anterior knee pain and chondromalacia patellae
Morton’s neuroma (nerve entrapment between the toes)
Metatarsalgia (inflammation of the ball of the foot)
This list is not exhaustive, so please do not hesitate to call us to discuss your needs.
